Carnegie Mellon's entry into the Grand Challenge, a DoD-funded robot offroad race from LA to Vegas, was the fastest robot out of the gate. "'I think [CMU's robot] Red wanted to make a statement here,' President Jared Cohon said as the red robot zoomed off the finish line." 45 minutes later, Red was disabled by engine trouble.
